Montana High School Rodeo Association

The Montana High School Rodeo Association (MHSRA) is one of the 41 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and Australia that is involved in the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA)

Founded in 1947 by Claude Mullins, there are currently 12,500 students in the NHSRA competing in over 1,100 sanctioned rodeos every year. MHSRA members compete at the state level for local recognition and the top four contestants in each event then qualify to compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo held in July. At the NHSFR over 1,500 contestants compete for national titles, awards and scholarships. By being a student member of the MHSRA, contestants also have an opportunity to be awarded college scholarships and scholarship assistance for continuing their educational careers. The NHSRA is an independent student athletic association that relies on the financial assistance of sponsors. For more information about the MHSRA, follow the links on the left and contact any of the directors or secretary.

Montana Musings

Finished Reined Cow Horse by Application:  1999 gelding, Lil Peppy N Smoke.  This horse has been the horse that has taught me the sport of Reined Cow Horse.  He is ferocious on a cow, strong down the fence, excellent lead changes, solid stops and spins.  Excellent shape, amazing feet!  I'd like to offer this horse to a student who would learn from him as I have.  Must be a serious rider in this event.  This horse is pushbutton, but strong.  Can cut off him if you choose that route, and has been roped off of, but not competitively.  This would be a private treaty arrangement and very affordable to the right student.  Please call Christie Francis at 406-581-0087 (Gallatin Gateway).

Student Mentorship Program:  Check out the Mentorship Program under "Forms" and then "Mentorship Program".  It is a chance for a Mentor and Mentoree to get their membership dues refunded.  A copy of this will be mailed out in membership packets.  For more questions, contact the State Offices.

League of Legends Horse Sale - September 6 - 7, 2019 in Livingston.  Flyer up under "Forms" and then "Turner Horse Sale".  They are asking for help from Montana High School/Jr. High contestants to help at their Horse Sale to clean stalls and water.  In exchange they will be donating half the proceeds of the sale of Lot #1, Jokers Fancy Smoke. Picture of the horse to be sold is also up under "Turner Horse Sale". Please volunteer to help out and support one of MHSRA's sponsors!

MEMBERSHIPS FOR 2019-2020 ARE NOW OPEN THROUGH THE NHSRA MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: The tutorial on how to do this is on the website under "Forms" and then "Membership".  You still will need all the notarized signatures on the forms.  NO MAILING MEMBERSHIPS, BIRTH CERTIFICATES AND GRADES.  They need to be uploaded through the MMS.  Membership payments still have to be a cashier's check or money order and mailed to the State Offices.  You can call the High School State Office to put your membership on the credit card, but it will cost an extra $6 for a HIgh School membership and $5 for a Jr. High. Call the State Offices if you have any questions.
